Yoga-related reads I highly recommend
Michelle Cassandra Johnson
This book is so much – an introspective journey into your own identity and privileges, a guide to teaching more inclusively while being true to yourself, and a primer on the ripple effects of white supremacy. It is something worth coming back to again and again, for many years to come.
I think one of my biggest takeaways from this book was that what is happening in the world, is happening in the yoga studio. The yoga studio is not a “safe space” from racism, ableism, suffering, or privilege, and pretending it is a safe space is denying the real world experience of so many. Rather than gathering under the umbrella of “but we are all one,” we can take direct steps to make our classes and studios more self aware and inclusive to all.
Who is this book for?
Anyone who wants to think more critically about their own yoga practice and priviledge.
